Oil, Gas & Midstream
Built by operators, on operator data, in the basin where our assets run.
Upstream and midstream generate some of the most commercially sensitive documentation in any industry, and almost none of it can be dropped into a shared AI endpoint.
Strata is unusual here for a simple reason: the group operates compression, gathering and generation in the Permian Basin. The domain layer was built against our own documents and telemetry before it was ever sold.
The data in question
| Category | Typical material | Why it cannot go to a public endpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Subsurface | Well logs, core data, seismic interpretation, completion designs | Directly competitive; frequently subject to partner confidentiality |
| Commercial | Gas purchase, gathering and processing agreements, marketing terms | Pricing terms that competitors and counterparties must not see |
| Land and title | Leases, assignments, division orders, chain of title | Third-party and mineral-owner data with contractual handling limits |
| Operations | SCADA exports, run tickets, maintenance and inspection records | Operational detail that reveals cost structure and downtime |
| Joint venture | Partner reporting, AFEs, joint operating agreements | JOA and confidentiality provisions restricting processing and location |
What usually blocks the project
- Joint operating and confidentiality agreements that restrict where partner data may be processed — the most commonly overlooked blocker in upstream.
- Competitive exposure: your counterparties are frequently investors in, or customers of, the same laboratories running the public endpoints.
- Data residency and export requirements on international assets.
- Internal policy that simply has no category for a shared AI service, so the default answer is no.
Where customers start
Contract abstraction
Gas purchase, gathering and processing agreements reduced to a reviewed clause set with defined terms preserved.
Land and title
Lease, assignment and division-order summarisation with chain-of-title logic that a general model does not have.
Operational question answering
One interface across SCADA exports, run tickets, maintenance logs and field notes.
